A deadly car crash near Pingree Grove, Illinois claimed the life of a 5 year-old girl and seriously injured three others. The crash occurred on February 20, 2015 on Route 72, near Big Timber Road, when a 17 year-old driver headed eastbound on Route 72 lost control of his Mercedes sedan when approaching a curve in the road.

The young girl, Gabrielle Horvath, was a back seat passenger traveling westbound on Route 72 with her father when a Mercedes sedan struck their Toyota FJ Cruiser head-on after the Mercedes crossed over into the oncoming lane. After the initial impact, a third car rear-ended the Horvath vehicle. Gabrielle and her father were both rushed to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL where Gabrielle was pronounced dead. The driver of the Mercedes, from Carpentersville, Illinois, was also taken to Sherman Hospital for his injuries.

The Carpentersville teen was cited for driving in the wrong lane, according to police. Authorities are still investigating to see if drugs, alcohol, or texting played a role in the crash.
