Mathys & Schneid Announces $1.25 Million Settlement for Motorcycle Accident
Oct. 22, 2013
Mark T. Schneid, a partner at the Naperville, Illinois, Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid, recently recovered $1.25 million for a client who sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident involving a negligent driver. The settlement will help the motorcycle rider recover his significant medical expenses and help pay for the rider’s future medical needs as a result of the accident.
The accident happened on the morning of July 3, 2011. The firm’s client, a 60-year-old trained and certified motorcycle rider, was riding his Harley Davidson. The driver of a minivan pulled away from a stop sign and moved directly in front of the motorcyclist. He was forced to lay down his bike and slide into the side of the minivan. The client sustained serious head and spinal cord injuries. He required multiple surgeries during a long recovery period.
The Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid filed a lawsuit in Will County to recover damages for the motorcycle rider. The minivan driver’s insurance companies vigorously fought the case, claiming that the motorcycle driver had been driving too fast. Witnesses to the accident and a police officer disagreed, however.
Mathys & Schneid litigated the case until three months before a trial was scheduled to begin in the case. The insurance company agreed to settle the case for $1.25 million, the maximum available under the minivan driver’s policy. The insurance company also covered the cost of repairs to the motorcycle.
“We are proud that we could recover the maximum amount possible for our client,” said Mr. Schneid, who litigated the case for the firm. “We are happy that the other driver finally accepted responsibility and that our client will be able to have the home health care and other assistance that he needs.”
