Child killed, three hurt in alleged DUI crash

Justice is not moving swiftly enough for the mayor of Highland Park. The official is accusing prosecutors in Lake County of improprieties in the investigation of a pedestrian accident that took the life of a 5-year-old child on Labor Day.

Nine Illinois football fans hurt in van-spinning crash

Nearly a dozen people were hurt, one seriously, when a van careened through an Illinois high school parking lot following a recent Friday night football game. Carthage police say the 71-year-old van driver may have had a medical incident while backing out of a parking space.

Chicago investigation centers on pedestrian fatality cause

A Chicago taxi driver told people who pulled him to safety that he tried to hit the brakes to prevent a recent car crash he was involved in. Nearby drivers saw the pedestrian accident -- a cab shooting through an intersection, striking a utility pole, flipping multiple times, slamming into a pedestrian and catching fire.

Accident victim's family settles Chicago suit for $3 million

A settlement amount of $3.25 million to be paid by the city of Chicago will never bring back the life of a little 4-year-old girl. However, the compensation to be paid to the child's family will hopefully be the first of many necessary arrangements that the city will be making to curtail its troubling pedestrian accident rates.

Skokie woman accused of boy's death pleads not guilty

A parent's pain after the loss of a child is immeasurable. The intensity of the suffering can increase when a child's serious injury or death is the needless result of a stranger's distracted, drugged or drunk driving.

Pedestrian appears to be at fault in 3-car crash

Negligence by motor vehicle drivers is frequently the cause of pedestrian accidents and injuries. A situation where a pedestrian is responsible for causing a car accident is much less likely to happen, but it does occur.

Naperville man confesses to 3 1/2-year-old pedestrian fatality

A 20-year-old University of Illinois student, days away from entering her junior year in college, walked along McDonough Drive in Joliet in August 2008. She was struck and killed near the Illinois Youth Center by a hit-and-run driver who escaped police capture for three and a half years.

Elderly pedestrian killed in garbage truck accident

An 81-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a garbage truck as she attempted to cross Main Street in Geneseo, Illinois, a city about 30 miles west of Chicago. According to responding police, the pedestrian accident occurred after the driver of a garbage truck turned onto Main Street where the woman was attempting to cross. The driver had stopped at a stop sign on the intersecting Center Street before negotiating his turn, so during investigations authorities may try to determine how the driver was not able to see the elderly woman in time.
