As the weather warms up and people seek to leave town for a few days, a great vacation can sometimes be ruined by the reckless and negligent actions of other individuals that can cause serious or even permanent injury. Here are some of the common causes of injuries during summer vacations:
On July 29, 2018, around 2:00 p.m., a semi-truck crashed with a passenger car, driven by a teenage woman, at the Randall and Hopps roads intersection in Elgin, Illinois. Elgin police report that the woman made her left turn from southbound Randall Road towards eastbound Hopps Road. The semi-truck, driven by a 57 year-old Wheeling man, did manage to sound its horn but could not avoid impact. Authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene, but they have not released the identities of the drivers or if traffic tickets were issued.
Mark T. Schneid recently obtained a $315,754.70 judgment at trial for our client against the United States of America for a crash caused by a U.S. Postal Service truck driver. The trial took place over several days in January and February 2018, in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, located in Chicago.
On March 2, 2018, around 2:00 p.m., three semi-trucks and four cars were involved in a fiery crash on inbound I-290 in Elmhurst, near St. Charles Road. Immediately after the crash, a fire spread between multiple truck cabs and cars involved in the pileup. Witnesses told reporters that the crash "sounded like an explosion" in the neighboring areas. Illinois State Police arrived and immediately closed all inbound lanes of the Eisenhower, which remained closed until 3:00 a.m. Friday morning.
A three-car crash on April 25, 2017, which resulted in at least one injury, occurred on northbound Route 83 at Frontage Road, just north of I-290 in Bensenville. Authorities say the crash happened around 12:30 p.m., causing all northbound lanes on Route 83 to be closed through the evening rush hour. The crash involved one passenger vehicle and two commercial trucks, causing all vehicles to sustain heavy damage.
A semi-truck jackknifed on I-88 near I-53 about 4:20 p.m. yesterday. Seven other vehicles including a landscape truck were involved in the crash. Four people were transferred to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Their condition is unknown at this time.
On September 8, 2015, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a semi-truck ran a red light on Lake Street at Glen Ellyn Road and crashed into an SUV in Bloomingdale, Illinois. The truck driver was eastbound on Lake Street when he crashed into the SUV crossing Lake Street on Glen Ellyn Road.
Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a semi-truck and passenger vehicle in Elwood, Illinois. The collision occurred on southbound Route 53 when the vehicle struck the semi just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15. The victim driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured.
A fatal collision between a passenger vehicle and semi-truck occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Diehl and Eola Road. While the initial investigation is ongoing, early reports indicate a gentleman and his wife were traveling through the intersection when a semi-truck collided with the vehicle, resulting in significant injuries and an unfortunate loss of life.
