Historically, male pedestrians are more likely to be injured than female pedestrians - and teen and young adult pedestrians are more likely to require medical treatment for crash related injuries than any other age group.

Aurora Man Struck by Car in Sugar Grove

On December 15, 2015, at approximately 9:27 a.m., a 20 year-old Aurora man was critically injured when he was struck by another vehicle in Sugar Grove. Police say the crash occurred on westbound Galena Boulevard at Route 56 when the Aurora man's Toyota Yaris became disabled, requiring him to get out of his vehicle to push it. At that time, an 18 year-old Aurora man also traveling westbound on Galena Boulevard struck the Yaris and its driver.

Bensenville Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run

A Bensenville woman was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the sidewalk on the 1000 block of West Irving Park Road in Bensenville, Illinois on October 23, 2015. Police say the driver of the truck was exiting the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot when the driver struck the woman. The truck then continued eastbound on Irving Park Road without stopping.

Naperville Man Crossing Street Struck by Car

A Naperville man was struck by a car when crossing Modaff Road near Bailey Road in Naperville, Illinois on October 8, 2015. Police provided in a release that the crash occurred at 6:25 a.m. when the driver of a blue 2015 Mazda CX5, traveling south on Modaff Road, struck the man.

Bartlett Woman Struck, Killed By Car

A Bartlett woman was struck and killed on US Route 20 near Lambert Lane in Bartlett, Illinois on September 28, 2015. Police say the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. when the driver, headed east on US Route 20, struck the woman. It is unclear if the woman was crossing or walking alongside the street.

Naperville-area Pedestrian Killed in Wheaton Car Crash

A Naperville-area woman was struck and killed near the intersection of Butterfield and Naperville Roads in Wheaton, Illinois on September 16, 2015. Police say the crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the driver, headed east on Butterfield Road, struck the pedestrian with the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Concertgoer Killed In Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

A 54 year-old female was killed in a hit-and-run after attending a Jason Aldean concert on July 17, 2015. Police say the crash occurred in the 19100 block of South Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park when the pedestrian, Luisa Domantay of Greenwood, was hit by a 2005 Jeep Cherokee. Domantay was rushed to Silver Cross Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

More Americans are cycling as a leisure activity, a mode of transportation or enjoyment of the outdoors. According to the NHTSA, from 2000 to 2012, the number of Americans traveling to work by bicycle increased from 488,000 to 786,000.

Des Plaines Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A deadly pedestrian-car crash in Des Plaines, Illinois claimed the life of a 31 year-old woman who was walking east on Central Road, near River Road. The crash occurred in the morning of May 13, 2015.

Joliet Pedestrian Killed In DUI Crash

On March 20, 2015, Joliet resident Mark Cipolla was struck and killed while standing on the northwest corner of the intersection of Hickory Street and Western Avenue in Joliet by two drivers who were both driving under the influence.
