Motor vehicle accidents: 1 killed in crash involving semi

Due to the substantial increases in size and weight, drivers of commercial vehicles must allow additional time to slow down upon approaching a halt in traffic. Those who fail to allow sufficient time and space to stop run a greater risk of creating an unfortunate scenario, as motor vehicle accidents involving tractor-trailers can have cataclysmic consequences. A recent accident involving a semi has reportedly claimed the life of one person in Illinois.

Motor vehicle accidents: Failure to yield prompts major crash

Failing to yield to oncoming traffic prior to navigating a left turn can be dangerous under any circumstance. Motor vehicle accidents that occur when a vehicle suddenly crosses into the path of another car run the unfortunate chance of placing the safety of all parties involved at risk. As many as three people reportedly suffered serious injuries in a recent collision involving a similar scenario in Illinois.

The untimely loss of someone close is something no family should have to endure. Those who lose loved ones in motor vehicle accidents may find the experience difficult to accept, especially when the loss comes at the hand of another party's negligent actions. Two individuals have died following a recent multiple-vehicle accident that is said to have taken place in Illinois.

How do safety-related defects affect your car?

Illinois' problem with drunk and speeding drivers

Residents in Illinois unfortunately know that every time they get in their vehicles, go out for a bike ride or a walk or even just attempt to cross a street, they face the risk of being hit by a reckless driver. From people who choose to drive while texting or when they are too tired to people to refuse to find other modes of transportation when they want to drink, there seems to be no end to the factors that contribute to so many serious and even fatal accidents on area roads and highways.

Wrong-way accident on Ill. interstate involves multiple vehicles

Studies by agencies such as the National Transportation Safety Board and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have indicated that accidents resulting from a driver traveling the wrong way are relatively rare. Of all the high-speed collisions that occur on divided highways across the United States, wrong-way crashes account for only about 3%. Nevertheless, they are the most likely to result in injury and death. A wrong-way accident north of Farmersville, Illinois, on Interstate 55 resulted in the deaths of two drivers and involved five vehicles altogether, one of them a Megabus carrying 54 passengers.

Fatal Illinois multi-vehicle accident results in charges

A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 in Effingham County, Illinois, that occurred late Saturday morning had far-reaching consequences. Not only did it claim three lives and send three other people to the hospital, but it also necessitated the closure of all lanes of traffic for several hours. This action essentially trapped motorists who had the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time in their vehicles on the interstate with temperatures outside in excess of 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

How to spot the signs of road rage

If you are like many other Illinois drivers, you are used to sharing the road with a multitude of motorists, all rushing to get to their destination. At some point in time, you may have gotten irritated with other drivers on the road, especially if you were late to work or an appointment. Road rage is common on Illinois roadways and on roads across the United States. In fact, AAA reported that nearly 80% of drivers have admitted to driving aggressively within the last year. The problem lies in the fact that aggressive driving can be deadly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 56% of fatal motor vehicle accidents were the result of excessive speeding, which is one type of aggressive driving behavior.
