Motor vehicle accidents: 1 killed in crash involving semi

On Behalf of | Nov 14, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Due to the substantial increases in size and weight, drivers of commercial vehicles must allow additional time to slow down upon approaching a halt in traffic. Those who fail to allow sufficient time and space to stop run a greater risk of creating an unfortunate scenario, as motor vehicle accidents involving tractor-trailers can have cataclysmic consequences. A recent accident involving a semi has reportedly claimed the life of one person in Illinois.

Authorities say they responded to reports of the accident on a recent Tuesday afternoon. Initial investigations indicate the crash occurred after the driver of a tractor-trailer failed to slow down for a sudden halt in traffic. The truck reportedly proceeded to crash into the rear of a nearby car and the impact of the crash forced the car to be caught between the truck and a second semi before being forced off the road.

Authorities say the truck proceeded to collide with the second tractor-trailer soon thereafter. According to reports, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Authorities have advised that the accident remains under investigation and that the driver who caused the crash has already been issued a citation for failing to slow down.

Families who lose loved ones in motor vehicle accidents involving commercial vehicles may be left in search of answers, or justice. Following such a loss, the surviving loved ones of the deceased could choose to retain the services of an attorney for guidance on their available options for legal recourse. An attorney can examine the incident and assist a client in Illinois in preparing to pursue the full amount of restitution entitled through a claim against the party or parties deemed responsible.
