How Naperville is helping create safer drivers

Car crashes are a reality across the country, and the city of Naperville, Illinois is no exception. While drivers of any age can suffer the devastating effects of a motor vehicle crash, there are some particular age ranges more susceptible to accidents behind the wheel.

New drivers are notoriously at risk for car crashes because of their inexperience. However, drivers over 50 are also at risk for completely different reasons. The city of Naperville recognizes the need to help drivers maintain their safety behind the wheel and is taking steps to do so.

Naperville and AARP partnership

The Naperville Police Department partnered with the AARP to offer a class to drivers age 50 and over called Smart Driver. As drivers age, they begin to face specific risks and hazards behind the wheel. This program helps mature drivers understand these risks and take proactive steps to mitigate them. This classroom refresher driver course has helped millions of drivers across the country to stay safe on the roads.

Another risk mature drivers face is that they have so much experience behind the wheel that they may no longer be as vigilant as they once were. The refresher course helps drivers age 50 and over to review the rules of the road and ensure they have updated information about the most current regulations for driving in Naperville.

Car crashes in Naperville

If you are in a car crash in Naperville, the city offers specific tips as to what you should do in the aftermath of the accident. It requires a crash report for all traffic collisions that involve injury and/or damage to property that totals more than $1,500 when all drivers have insurance.

In any accident that involves injuries, it is essential to call 9-1-1 and ensure that any injured parties get immediate medical treatment. If you suffer injuries in a car crash, make sure you keep all documentation regarding your medical treatment and injuries. This documentation will prove essential if you need to pursue legal action to seek compensation for injuries resulting from the crash.
