5 top causes of snowmobile accidents

As winter comes into full swing, it may be time for you to take your snowmobiles out for a fun time. If snowmobiling with family and friends is one of your winter traditions, then you likely cannot wait. However, you also know this wintertime activity can be dangerous.

The inherent nature of snowmobiling is what makes it both enjoyable and potentially harmful. Zipping through extreme weather conditions at high speeds can give you both a boost of adrenaline and a serious injury. Here are five common causes of snowmobile injuries you should be aware of this winter.

1. Speeding

While snowmobiles are designed to go fast, it is important to use caution. Make sure you operate your snowmobile at a comfortable speed at which you are in complete control. Additionally, watch out for other riders who may be speeding and crash into you.

2. Drunkenness

Of course, you know to never drink alcohol and get on your snowmobile. However, other riders may not be as smart. Drinking and riding snowmobiles is one of the top causes of severe and deadly snowmobile collisions. Watch out for other snowmobile enthusiasts who may be consuming alcohol. They may suffer from altered perception, slow reaction times and impaired ability.

3. Malfunctions

Even if you have a top-of-the-line snowmobile, malfunctions are always possible. Snowmobiles are just like any other vehicle. Mechanical defects and sudden malfunctions can lead to injuries and fatalities.

4. Riding alone

Remember, there is always safety in numbers. If you get into an accident, you may benefit from having friends or relatives around to assist you. Take people with you whenever you can. If you ever do ride solo, make sure you inform people about your plans so they can help if something goes wrong.

5. Poor trails

Unfortunately, property owners do not always properly maintain their trails. Hidden obstacles like fences, rocks, tree stumps and cables can cause you to get hurt.

  4. "Easy to talk to"

Mr. Mathys and Mr. Schneid were very professional and easy to talk to. Prior to working with them, my wife and I had no real experience with the legal system beyond a house closing, yet Mr. Mathys and Mr. Schneid explained the whole process to us very well. I knew that whenever I had a concern about our case or the legal system in general I could call their office or send an email and receive answers the same day... -Larry

  5. "Provided very wise advice"

I've dealt with attorneys on a variety of issues, almost all of them since leaving college and entering the workplace. Mr. Mathys was the first attorney I had any real experience with, and I was impressed then and remain so. He provided very wise advice and always kept me informed. In the end, he delivered a favorable result. I recommend him highly.

Not long ago I was involved in a car accident where I was hit by a gravel truck at an intersection. They went to bat for me with the trucking company's insurance and got me a settlement. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends. -Dan H.
