ARE DRIVERLESS CARS TRULY AS SAFE AS WE THINK THEY ARE?

On March 19th, the first pedestrian death as a result of a driverless car occurred in Tempe, Arizona. Arizona has been a strong proponent of the driverless technology. It has quickly cut regulations and opened its public roads to driverless cars in an attempt to lure driverless car manufacturers such as Uber, Lyft and Waymo over its borders. Driverless cars have been praised as being safer than their human-operated counterparts. For instance, driverless cars take out the "distraction element" that often affects human drivers. One does not have to worry about a driverless car being distracted by a fluffy dog on the side of the road, or even worse, being under the influence of any intoxicating substance. Moreover, the driverless cars strictly adhere to the rules of the road. Driverless cars come to a complete stop at stop signs and when the traffic light turns "yellow," the driverless cars immediately slow down.

Is your television a danger to your children?

You may have heard of the negative effects of letting your children watch too much TV. However, the programming is not the only thing you need to look out for. Heavy objects found in most houses, including your big-screen television set, might present a potentially life-threatening danger to young children in Illinois.

Why older people are more susceptible to falls

While some environmental factors, such as icy sidewalks and cluttered staircases, can make anyone fall, you are even more likely to find yourself a victim of such circumstances as you age. Why? As you grow older, many parts of your body begin to deteriorate, and there are also other factors at work that make you more likely to fall and suffer an injury as a senior.

NEW SUPREME COURT DECISION ENCOURAGES SETTLEMENT BY NEGLIGENT PARTIES

In Antonicelli v. Rodriguez, the Illinois Supreme Court found that a Cook County judge was correct in allowing the Defendant, Daniel Rodriguez, to settle for the limits of his policy, $20,000, and to not allow the driver of a semi-truck and his companies that were also involved in the crash to force him to pay more.

When you go to the emergency room, you expect to receive prompt and effective treatment. Unfortunately, you may fall victim to medical mistakes in the emergency department. Emergency room errors are surprisingly common-there are as many as ten million mistakes in emergency rooms each year.

Payless shoe store accident ends in child’s death

When parents take their children out to run errands or have fun, the last thing they expect is for something to go wrong and their children to end up in the hospital or lose their lives. Sadly, accidents occur and families lose loved ones during everyday situations. Consumers in Illinois and elsewhere should understand that if an accident was preventable, store owners or other negligent parties could be held responsible for their expenses and pain and suffering.
