Where your injury case is all that matters

Construction violations that might threaten your life at work

You already know that working in construction is one of the most dangerous jobs you can have. At the Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid, we understand that although you may strictly adhere to safety regulations and take your job seriously, you still run the risk of being seriously injured or killed due to a mistake or a safety violation. In fact, safety violations are a common cause of construction fatalities in Illinois and elsewhere.

In 2015, 937 construction workers lost their lives on the job, making up 21.4 percent of all jobsite deaths that year across the country, reported the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Heavy equipment and dangerous situations, such as working from heights, can increase your chances of an accident. These factors often fall into a category of accident types known in the industry as the “fatal four,” which you may have already heard of. The fatal four include falls, being struck by an object, electrocution and being caught in or between an object. Safety authorities say that getting rid of the fatal four would prevent the deaths of 602 construction workers across the U.S. each year.

Safety standards are in place to protect you and your co-workers. However, construction workers might choose to ignore a safety rule, or your company might bypass a rule to cut corners. The most common safety violations in construction include scaffolding protection, protection against falls, respiratory protection, machinery and machine guarding, electrical protection and precautions regarding industrial trucks.

It is crucial that construction companies enforce safety standards among their employees. Our page on construction accidents explains further.
