Take these steps immediately following a car crash

No matter how minor a car accident is, the experience can be very traumatizing. This is why it is good to have an action plan stating what you will do in the event of an actual crash. This article includes the most important steps you should take following a car accident. Writing these steps down and keeping them handy in your car could help you stay organized following a crash -- when your head is likely to be very frazzled.

First and foremost, remember to stay at the car accident scene. You should never leave a car accident site until you have been given permission to do so and/or unless you need to go to the hospital for medical attention. If you leave the scene of an accident, you could get in serious trouble with the law and face criminal penalties.

Second, look to see that all drivers and passengers involved in the crash are okay and injury free. Make sure that ambulances are called and medical attention is acquired for anyone who requires it. If you find someone who is unconscious or suffering from serious back and neck pain, make sure that he or she does not move until emergency medical personnel arrive and/or unless a serious hazard requires that you move him or her.

Third, call the police. In cases where there are physical injury or death, or serious property damage, ask police to file a police report. Make sure to write down the badge numbers and names of any officers who tend to your accident. Also, get a copy of the police report.

Fourth, exchange information with everyone involved in the crash. This information includes names, phone numbers, addresses, license plate numbers, driver's license numbers, insurance information and anything else you can think of. Be sure to get the same for passengers — mainly the passengers' names, addresses and telephone numbers.

There are some other important things you should do, like take notes on what witnesses saw, take photographs of everything, call your insurance company and save all bills and records relating to your medical treatment.

Finally, you may also wish to speak with a qualified personal injury attorney to discuss the possibility of pursing a personal injury case in court. Indeed, a successfully navigated personal injury claim may be very important for the purpose of securing money to pay for medical care relating to your injuries.

  4. "Easy to talk to"

Mr. Mathys and Mr. Schneid were very professional and easy to talk to. Prior to working with them, my wife and I had no real experience with the legal system beyond a house closing, yet Mr. Mathys and Mr. Schneid explained the whole process to us very well. I knew that whenever I had a concern about our case or the legal system in general I could call their office or send an email and receive answers the same day... -Larry

Not long ago I was involved in a car accident where I was hit by a gravel truck at an intersection. They went to bat for me with the trucking company's insurance and got me a settlement. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends. -Dan H.
