Dealerships to receive compensation from Honda for airbag losses

Honda instituted a massive recall of Honda and Acura vehicles equipped with Takata-made airbag inflators last January. Although this effort should be lauded by consumers endangered by these potentially deadly devices -- which can explode and shoot metal fragments into vehicles -- the Honda dealerships that sell these vehicles were hit hard financially. Dealerships were forced to halt sales on about 1.7 million new and previously owned automobiles, meaning that their profit-generating capacities came to a full stop.

In addition to not being able to sell cars, dealerships were also hit hard by financial costs associated with the need to redesign their showroom floors. Fortunately for these financially-strapped dealerships, Honda recently made an announcement that it will be compensating them for their monetary losses caused by depreciating vehicles and other recall-related costs.

Due to the prevalence of Takata-made airbags in so many different varieties of vehicles made by different auto manufacturers, there is little doubt that we haven't seen the last of injuries and deaths caused by these dangerous devices. Indeed, Takata airbags have caused numerous deaths throughout the world and it is doubtful that -- in spite of dealerships and auto makers' best efforts -- all of the affected cars will be cured of their deficiencies.

As such, any time a Naperville resident is injured or killed in a car accident that involved a deployed airbag, it is important for authorities, personal injury attorneys and victims to analyze whether or not an airbag defect may have caused the injuries and/or deaths. In cases where a defective airbag does appear to be the reason for the injuries and/or deaths, victims or their families may have strong claims for financial restitution in court.
