Illinois auto collision claims one life in Tazewell County

A crash in Tazewell County, Illinois, has left one person dead and two persons injured. The incident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m. on a recent Wednesday. According to the County Sheriff, a 70-year-old man crossed into opposing traffic and collided with another vehicle that contained three people.

The 70-year-old driver survived the crash, but he required hospital care for non-fatal injuries. Meanwhile, a 35-year-old woman and her 42-year-old husband, who were riding in the other vehicle, needed to be transported to the hospital by helicopter. They are now listed to be in fair condition. A third person in the second vehicle did not survive. That unidentified passenger was found dead at the crash site.

Police cited the 70-year-old driver for improper lane usage. However, the Illinois State Police, the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office and the County Coroner's Office are still looking into how this collision may have occurred; therefore, it is possible that more charges and/or citations could be pending relating to the crash.

When Illinois residents are killed in car crashes, the at-fault driver blamed for causing the accident might be liable to the deceased person's close family members for wrongful death damages stemming from the incident. Still, every legal case is different with its own set of factual circumstances. Therefore, each potential wrongful death lawsuit relating to an auto collision must be reviewed independently to evaluate the strengths of the action. After such a review is performed by a qualified lawyer, then family members can evaluate whether following through with the action is in their relatives' and their own best interests.
