3 seriously injured in a suspected Illinois drunk driving crash

A head-on car accident close to the Quad City International Airport injured three people on Tuesday morning. Police believe that alcohol played a role in the crash. The incident happened a little after midnight near the Holiday Inn Express on Airport Road.

According to the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department, a 62-year-old man was traveling eastbound in a 1984 Chevrolet pickup truck when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. The pickup crossed into oncoming lanes of traffic and crashed into a 2004 GMC Envoy head-on.

Miraculously, no one was killed in the crash. However, the drivers of both vehicles were airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The GMC Envoy's driver was a 49-year-old woman. Also inside the Envoy was the driver's 19-year-old son. He required hospitalization for serious injuries as well.

As of last reports, an accident reconstruction team was still investigating how and why the collision occurred. Authorities suspect that alcohol was a factor in the collision. However, pending investigations, no one has been charged in the incident yet.

It is always a tragedy when catastrophic injuries are caused by a drunk driver in Illinois. Indeed, these kinds of accidents are completely avoidable if drivers were to follow the law and refrain from dangerously getting behind the wheel while inebriated by alcohol. Illinois courts take these kinds of cases seriously and will prosecute and punish drunk drivers to the full extent of the law in criminal court. Injured parties will also be able to seek personal injury damages relating to the medical costs, pain and suffering, disabilities and lost quality of life resulting from their damages caused by the crash.
