Woman loses life in fatal I-55 car crash

Whenever your car breaks down and you are forced to pull over to the side of the road, it is safest to pull over as far away from traffic is possible. If there is a grassy shoulder with plenty of space, pull all the way into it rather than parking your car on the side of the roadway itself. This simple act can help you avoid the potential for a serious and deadly crash.

Recently, on the evening of Oct. 22, a fatal accident just like this occurred. Sadly, a woman was killed after her car became disabled and she pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate. The crash happened along the northbound lanes of Interstate 55, not far from Maryville.

According to police, the accident victim had pulled onto the right-hand shoulder of the interstate. The woman had exited her vehicle when another motorist lost control. The motorist hit the woman's car, which then struck the woman. Police say that she was instantly killed as a result of the collision.

Initially, police detained the motorist who lost control, but the driver has yet to be charged relating to the incident. No doubt, if the driver is eventually charged in the crash, the charges will help to bolster any claims that are brought by family members of the deceased woman.

The decision to pursue a wrongful action is a personal one, but in some cases, it is also a financial one. Indeed, if a family member loses a loved one due to the negligence of another driver, the family might also lose a primary contributor to family income. Also, end of life expenses can be extremely costly. If a wrongful death action is successfully navigated, these kinds of damages and more may be recoverable in the suit.
