Illinois officer dies in wrong-way crash

A Chicago Ridge police officer lost his life in a tragic wrong-way accident last Sunday. The off-duty officer was involved in a three-car accident that was triggered by a driver who was driving down the Tri-State Tollway in the wrong direction.

The 27-year-old officer was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that was hit by the wrong-way driver. The officer was on his way to Stone Park and his cousin was driving. The officer was returning to pick up his vehicle, which he had left in Stone Park following a wedding.

Police first received word of a wrong way driver on the Tri-State Tollway at approximately 3:45 a.m. A woman was driving her Toyota Camry in the opposite direction in northbound lanes. The woman collided head-on with a Dodge Neon. The Camry spun and hit a 2013 Chevy pickup.

Unfortunately, the 27-year-old officer was found dead at the accident scene. The woman driving the Camry suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The people in the pickup truck survived uninjured.

As of last reports, authorities were still investigating what may have caused the crash.

With any fatal car accident case in Illinois, it is absolutely imperative to determine what parties are at fault for the incident. Not only is this important for bringing at-fault parties to justice in criminal court, but the evidence gathered in such investigations will also help the family members of deceased victims seek financial restitution for wrongful death damages.

Mr. Mathys and Mr. Schneid were very professional and easy to talk to. I knew that whenever I had a concern about our case or the legal system in general I could call their office or send an email and receive answers the same day... -Larry

  7. "They went to bat for me"

Not long ago I was involved in a car accident where I was hit by a gravel truck at an intersection. After I called Mathys & Schneid, even though I didn't have a very large case, they made me feel like I was one of their most important cases. They went to bat for me with the trucking company's insurance and got me a settlement. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends. -Dan H.
