An Indiana couple was traveling to Ravinia last night when their car was reported to have been traveling around a curve at a high rate of speed when it skid off the road. The vehicle knocked over a light pole and came to rest on its roof near the lakefront path and Kathy Osterman Beach. The woman who was killed was a front seat passenger. Witnesses reported seeing her possibly ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the car suffered head injuries and was listed in critical condition.
The stretch of Lake Shore Drive often goes down to 45 miles per hour, however drivers routinely treat it as an interstate traveling in excess of 65 or 70. Police are still investigating the incident and no reports have determined whether the driver was ticketed at this time.
