Woman fatally struck by car; girl suffers skull fracture in Des Plaines on same stretch of road

A 70 year old woman was hit by a car last week while crossing Miner Street in Des Plaines. The woman was listed in critical condition for a week since the crash and was unable to recover from her injuries where she was pronounced dead on Sunday. A cause of death is expected to be released. The 88 year old driver of the vehicle was ticketed for driving on an expired license and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a roadway.

The same day, approximately two hours later, a 32 year old woman was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a roadway after hitting two 13 year old girls on bikes. The incident also occurred on Miner Street. One girl suffered a skull fracture and the other suffered a fractured clavicle, according to police.

Fatal injuries can occur at intersections when drivers are distracted or not exercising safe driving. Oftentimes, car crashes involving pedestrians can result in significant injuries. To reduce your chances of sustaining injuries while at a busy intersection, there are a few simple rules you can follow. Pedestrians should exercise caution by obeying walk signals, observe the vehicles around you and stay within the cross walk.
