A young man from Ukraine was riding his motorcycle through Highland Park when he was involved in an accident with a car. There were three people in that car, and they all escaped without any injuries. However, the motorcyclist was killed. He was just 21 years old.
At this time, the police have not yet determined which vehicle was at fault in the accident. The investigation is still being carried out.
What police do know is that the crash happened in the early evening around 7 p.m. They think that the motorcycle was on Walker Avenue, heading west, and that the car was on Fort Sheridan Avenue, heading north.
The man on the motorcycle was not killed immediately at the scene, but he did suffer critical injuries. The first responders tried to keep him alive, and others at the scene were working on reviving the man before emergency crews even got there. They were able to get him to NorthShore Highland Park Hospital, but he then passed away from his injuries roughly 20 minutes after the crash.
The police also do not know if the man had his motorcycle helmet on when he collided with the car. They did report finding a helmet at the crash site, but it’s not yet clear if he had it on or if the helmet was perhaps just being carried on the bike. For documentation and investigation, the Major Crash Assistance Team was called in.
