Why does Spring Break cause more car accidents?

Studies have shown that Spring Break, while fun for college students, can actually cause a lot of car accidents. What are the reasons for this spike, and what should people in Illinois know about these accidents?

Of course, the increased travel itself is naturally going to lead to a spike in accidents. However, it's not just an issue of having more cars on the road, but of having drivers in places that they do not usually drive. If they are unfamiliar with the city, they may be more likely to crash than they would be at home.

Additionally, college and high school students who go on Spring Break are almost all rather inexperienced drivers. Even by their senior year of college, most students will not have been driving for a full decade. Their youth and inexperience can lead to accidents.

It's no secret that most student want to party and have fun on Spring Break, so alcohol also plays a role. According to the National College Health Assessment that the American College Health Association put out, almost a quarter of the college students asked said that they had driven after drinking.

Finally, students may be more likely to take risks if they are hanging out with their friends on Spring Break. The atmosphere of the event caters to poor decision making, and this outlook can cause them to break other traffic laws, such as the speed limit.

If you've been hurt in an accident or if you've lost a loved one, make sure that you know what rights you may have to financial compensation.
