A fatal car crash with a semi left two women dead last weekend. The crash happened on March 29th at about 5:20 a.m. in the 3100 block of South Damen Avenue where the road crosses I-55. The vehicle was driven north on Damen when it struck the passenger side of the trailer of a semi-truck that was making a left turn to enter northbound Damen after I-55, according to a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.
The passenger and driver of the vehicle were taken to Stroger Hospital where the passenger later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The driver was listed in critical condition and was unable to recover from her injuries. She was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. on Monday, but her death was not made public until Friday, April 3. The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is now handling the case and no citations have been issued at this time.
