A fatal collision between a passenger vehicle and semi-truck occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Diehl and Eola Road. While the initial investigation is ongoing, early reports indicate a gentleman and his wife were traveling through the intersection when a semi-truck collided with the vehicle, resulting in significant injuries and an unfortunate loss of life.
Photographs taken by eyewitnesses and news cameras depict the jackknifed semi with major damage to the front of the vehicle. Police state everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts, no sign of alcohol or drugs were involved, and no citations have been issued at this time.
Collisions involving semi-trucks that result in significant injuries or death leave family members and close friends shaken by the tragedy. Although safety data statistics have shown improvement from 2012 to 2013, nearly 700 deaths occurred in the United States involving large trucks. Even further, over 20,000 injuries were reported nationwide during that same time period involving semis.
Recently, our truck accident lawyers settled a highly-contested wrongful death lawsuit for $2 million for the family of their deceased children. The trucker was unsafely returning to the roadway after pulling on to the shoulder of the highway.
