Driver runs from police in Illinois, hits other cars

Four separate vehicles were drawn into a wreck that took place on Feb. 13 in Dixon, Illinois. The accident happened at 9:15 in the evening. It all started when police simply attempted to pull a driver over. That driver had reportedly committed a traffic violation, which the officer saw. The attempted stop happened at the intersection where North Brinton Avenue and Bradshaw Street come together.

Rather than stopping, though, the driver accelerated and ran from the police. The department has reported that their officer did not follow, but allowed the driver to speed away rather than engaging in a high-speed chase. However, that driver then flew by another police car near a red light, running the light at the intersection of Everett Street and North Galena Avenue. The driver of the second police car reported that the car was speeding.

The runaway car continued down the street, though, until it rear-ended another vehicle. This initial collision threw the speeding vehicle across the center line and into the traffic coming down the road. At that point, the car hit two more cars before coming to a stop.

The driver was trapped in his car due to the damage. The fire department had to come to the scene in order to extract him.

Car accidents can happen very quickly, even when you are following all of the traffic laws. It only takes one driver to break the law and cause a multi-car wreck. If you've been hurt in such a wreck, it's important to look into your legal options.

I knew that whenever I had a concern about our case or the legal system in general I could call their office or send an email and receive answers the same day... -Larry

  7. "They went to bat for me"

Not long ago I was involved in a car accident where I was hit by a gravel truck at an intersection. After I called Mathys & Schneid, even though I didn't have a very large case, they made me feel like I was one of their most important cases. They went to bat for me with the trucking company's insurance and got me a settlement. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends. -Dan H.
