Realities of fatal car accidents in Illinois

People sometimes do not realize the full death toll that can be attributed to car accidents in the United States because most accidents just involve one or two people. On top of that, the majority of the accidents are not even fatal, just resulting in injuries or perhaps allowing everyone to walk away without complications. However, the truth is that there are around 40,000 fatalities every year in car crashes.

Are surgical errors the most common in medical malpractice cases?

When you think of medical malpractice cases in Illinois, what do you think of first? Do you recall the stories that people sometimes tell of surgical errors, such as a doctor leaving an instrument inside a person after surgery or removing the wrong limb? These things carry a certain dramatic weight, so they are discussed frequently, but the fact of the matter is that surgical errors are not the most common.

Will workers' comp cover a slip and fall in parking lot at work?

Every compensable work-related injury must arise out of and occur during the course of your employment. "In the course of your employment" refers to the time, place and circumstances which the accident occurred. Injuries sustained on an employer's premises within a reasonable time before and after work are generally compensable. However, injuries which occur to or from work are generally not compensable.

Facts about teen drivers and car accidents

If you've heard someone in Illinois complaining about teen drivers, you've probably heard that a lot of people think that teens are something of a danger on the roads due to their lack of experience. Though this is something that clearly can't be fixed without putting them behind the wheel -- to get that experience -- people will sometimes talk about changing the driving age. However, what do the facts look like?

As of January 1, 2015, the new mandatory minimum limits of vehicle liability insurance is increased to a $25,000 bodily injury liability limit per person; a $50,000 bodily injury liability limit per accident; and a $20,000 property damage limit.   The old requirements were $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident.  If you still only have $20,000 in coverage, you need to increase it to $25,000 to drive legally.

How negligence factors into different wrongful death cases

One of the key things to remember about a wrongful death case in Illinois is that negligence is often the reason for the death. This means that another person could have prevented the death, had he or she done more or taken appropriate action, but didn't. Therefore, the party is guilty of aiding in the death, though he or she never intended for it to happen.

How does a jury impact a case of failure to remove ice and snow?

The failure to remove ice and snow in Illinois can cause you to slip and fall when going to a business. This is especially true if the snow has been compacted due to constant traffic, and the owner has done nothing about it. As you will see, a jury can have a huge impact on a case like this.
