Truck accidents and main causes for commercial drivers

It's true that some truck accidents in Illinois are caused by other drivers on the road, not by the commercial drivers themselves. For instance, a car could cut a truck off and brake suddenly. While the car can stop quickly with its low overall weight, a much heavier truck may not be able to stop quickly enough.

Is there a formula used to determine a car accident settlement?

If you were injured in a car accident and are looking for an attorney, you've probably wondered how much your case is worth. In just about every free consultation I give, I'm asked about the "case value" and how I determine an acceptable settlement range. Here's the truth: there is no magic formula because each case is unique.

Medical malpractice in Illinois is anything but frivolous

The unfortunate truth is that some people look at medical malpractice cases and believe that they are little more than frivolous lawsuits. They think that people are too quick to start up these lawsuits over things that don't matter. The reality, though, is that this is anything but true. That's something that some people do not realize until an unfortunate incident happens to them.

What happens if I am unable to return to work after a work-related injury?

Suffering from a catastrophic injury leaving you unable to work is a life-changing event that has significant effects on you and your family. Illinois workers who suffer from a work-related injury leaving them permanently and totally disabled may be eligible to receive benefits for life. Filing a successful claim for Permanent Total Disability (PTD) entitles an injured worker to receive 2/3 of their average weekly wages for their average life expectancy, according to the Life Tables. Payments are subject to maximums and minimums depending on the date of the accident.

Is a criminal conviction needed in a wrongful death case?

Many times, a criminal conviction may come before or during a wrongful death case, and the two cases will then go hand-in-hand. For example, if a traffic accident in Illinois takes a life, the driver who caused the accident could get criminal charges, and then the family of the victim could seek to start a wrongful death case in order to get compensation, due to that fact that the criminal case is clear evidence that that person was at fault.

How does a pre-existing injury affect my personal injury case?

You probably already know that it's possible to recover for any injuries you receive from a car accident, but what if the car accident makes an existing injury worse? Contact a personal injury attorney as soon as possible to discuss your options.
