One person is dead and three others are suffering from injuries after a car accident in Illinois. The reports are that it was a single-car accident and that the woman who was killed is a resident of Decatur. She was just 20 years old when she died, and she was a passenger in the car.
The police say that the crash took place right around 8 in the evening. They have also said that it happened on East Wood St, in the 1900 block. It was on a Saturday evening in late July.
The car that crashed was close to 19th Street when it left the roadway and struck a tree. After the impact, it ended up coming to rest in a nearby driveway. Two passengers, the woman who was killed and another person who was not identified, were both flung from the vehicle in the course of the accident.
The woman who died was actually taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by the emergency crews, but the Macon County Coroner stated that she was officially declared to be dead at the medical facility. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Carle Hospital, as was the other person who was thrown out of the vehicle. Their injuries are said to be critical, while a final passenger suffered from only minor injuries.
Though they have not yet released a cause for the crash, the Decatur Police Department is apparently considering both alcohol and speed.
When car accidents take lives and lead to critical injuries, the financial costs to those who are involved can be very high, and it is important for them or their family members to know what legal rights they have to compensation.
