Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid recently obtained a $220,000 settlement for a person injured in a car accident in DuPage County.
On June 10, 2010, our client, a 53 year-old man, was traveling westbound on Midway Drive at the intersection of Brookbank Road in Willowbrook. He did not have a stop sign for his direction. The other driver was traveling northbound on Brookbank Road when he pulled his vehicle directly in front of our client and caused a severe frontal impact for our client’s vehicle.
Our client sustained a concussion and a factured orbital bone in his face from being thrown around inside his car even with his seatbelt on. Our client suffered from post-concussion syndrome, including symptoms of headache, attention and memory difficulties. Our client also suffered a permanent loss of sense of smell due to the forces involved in the crash. In a frontal impact to the head, the brain can move forward inside the skull and shear off the olfactory nerves that allow us to perceive smell. The loss of sense of smell in that situation can be permanent. The outstanding medical treatment by a number of DuPage County-area doctors, nurses, physical therapists and psychologists helped our client recover as good as possible, but he will still have certain permanent issues.
The case settled very shortly before the trial in DuPage County when the insurance company increased their settlement offer to an amount 10 times larger than their original offer.
Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid continues to handle all types of personal injury cases involving car accidents, truck and motorcycle accidents, medical malpractice, defective products, permanent injuries, wrongful death and other unfortunate circumstances in DuPage, Cook, Kane, Will and Kendall Counties and through the Naperville – Chicago area.
