1 man dies in Illinois after 5-vehicle pileup

A man has been killed in Illinois after he was involved in a five-vehicle pileup. He was riding in an SUV near a construction zone at the time of the crash. That SUV was then struck by a semi-truck, resulting in his death. The man who was killed was 74 years old, and his wife, who was behind the wheel, was 71.

The accident took place on Interstate 39, and it happened just after three in the afternoon. The police gave a ticket to the man who was driving the semi. They say that he was responsible for starting the whole accident chain when he did not reduce his truck's speed enough.

According to the police, the truck driver was on I-39, right around mile marker 112, driving in the southbound lanes. His truck allegedly slammed into the back of the SUV. The SUV may have been slowing down as it got close to the construction zone, but the truck driver did not follow suit. The accident shoved the SUV off of the highway and into the ditch.

This was not the end of the incident, though, as the semi then crashed into another SUV, knocking it into the median. It kept on going, ramming into a car and pushing it onto the shoulder of the interstate. The driver then drove down into the ditch himself, but he hit another passenger car in the process.

The wife of the man who died was taken to the hospital as well, and she was in critical condition at the last report.

Truck accidents that involve multiple vehicles can often lead to high medical expenses for all of those who are injured and their families, and they need to be aware of their rights to seek compensation for those injuries or the loss of a loved one.
