Dog bites cost over 9 million dollars in Illinois last year

Every year dogs bite thousands of people in America. In Illinois, dog bites and attacks are particularly common reasons for insurance claims. A State Farm Insurance Company study recently found that Illinois has the second highest rate of dog bites in the nation. State Farm paid out more than $9 million in dog bite claims last year in Illinois.

Remember to wear your seatbelt this Memorial Day weekend

Before your vehicle leaves the driveway on the way to or from a barbecue or celebration this Memorial Day weekend, remember to put your seat belt on. The Illinois Department of Transportation is in the midst of its annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign, which will conclude over Memorial Day weekend. Illinois State Police and more than 500 local officers, including the Naperville Police Department, are focusing on seat belt violations during May.

Nearly half of high schoolers in survey text while driving

Distracted drivers of all ages cause more fatal car accidents than anyone else. Whenever drivers look away from the road, they multiply their chances of having an accident. For teenage drivers, one of the biggest distractions is texting while driving, and the consequences can be fast and final.

Church to pay for woman's fall while 'receiving the spirit'

An Illinois woman has settled a claim that her church should be liable for injuries she suffered when she fell during a service. The woman claimed that during a 2010 worship service, members of the congregation rushed forward to receive the spirit. The church had assigned ushers to catch people who fell in the process. They were not able to catch everyone, however.

Driver in deadly truck accident may have fallen asleep

An investigation into a fiery truck crash that killed an Illinois trooper earlier this year has found that the truck driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel. The 25-year-old truck driver was traveling south on Interstate 294 one night when he veered left and hit a squad car that was parked on the left shoulder of the road. A 28-year-old trooper inside the squad car was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a preliminary truck accident investigation report, the driver told police that he fell asleep.
