Premises liability: Bounce house injury rates have skyrocketed

Bounce houses have become a staple at children's birthday celebrations, block parties and other family-friendly events. At least partly as a result of their growth, the injury rates for bounce houses have jumped sky high. A recent study found that there were 15 times as many injuries to children on bounce houses in 2010 as there were in 1995. More striking: Between 2008 and 2010, the number of these injuries doubled.

Doctor accused of botching robotic surgeries

Robotic surgeries are an increasingly common way to perform surgeries such as repairing heart valves, transplanting organs, and removing prostates and gallbladders. Some believe the surgeries can lead to less pain and a faster recovery time. But others are questioning the uses and safety of the devices - and in one case, of a doctor who performed surgeries using robots.

Dangerous products: Group warns of toy balls that swell in water

One way that young children learn is by putting things, including small toys, in their mouths. Unfortunately, certain toys can be extremely dangerous if swallowed. Last year, a popular small toy that expands dramatically in water was recalled after an 8-month-old girl swallowed one and needed surgery. While that toy, Dunecraft Water Balz, is no longer on the market, similar absorbent polymer balls are on the market, and they could be dangerous for Naperville children.

Springtime in Illinois: Officials begin motorcycle safety effort

Although winter weather may linger a little longer, it's officially spring. As such, Illinois public safety officials are starting to focus on safe driving for the summer months. With warmer weather, more and more people will take to the roads on their motorcycles. This means that Naperville motorists will have to take some precautions.

Will Naperville stop light prevent car-bicycle accidents?

One particular traffic light has been the source of frustration for many drivers in Naperville. Specifically, a number of local residents may have wondered why they are required to wait to receive a "green arrow" when turning left at the intersection of Washington Street and Hobson Road. Local officials created this specific rule in order to protect bikers from car accidents caused by inattentive drivers.

Illinois retailer faces suit for plumbing-related accident

Just over a year ago, a seemingly average shopping trip at a Marshalls department store took an unexpected and painful turn for one Illinois man. While trying to exit a stall in the bathroom, the man slipped and fell as the result of an unmarked puddle of water. As a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, the man has filed a premises liability claim against the retail chain.
