Teens Die in Wilmington Car Crash

Four young teenagers died in a one-vehicle car crash in Wilmington on Monday, March 11, 2013. Unfortunately, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens. In 2010 alone, about 2,700 teens in the United States aged 16-19 were killed and almost 282,000 others injured in car crashes. Many of these crashes are caused by driver inexperience, speeding, lower seat belt use, drinking while driving, and other risky behavior. A proven method to reduce these numbers is by instituting graduated drivers licensing (GDL) programs. Research shows that GDL programs are associated with reductions of 38% and 40% in fatal and injury crashes, respectively, among 16-year-old drivers. Parents can also play a key role in preventing teen car crashes and deaths by talking to your teen about staying safe behind the wheel and keeping that conversation going throughout his or her teen years. Unfortunately, this will not prevent all teenage crashes. If you or your family member was injured in a car accident caused by a teenage driver, it is important to discuss your options for obtaining compensation by contacting the experienced personal injury attorneys at Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid for your free consultation.
