Could 'talking cars' reduce city bus accident rates?

Anyone who has spent time on Chicago-area roads during rush hour knows exactly how congested they can be. In an effort to save time, money and stress during their daily commute, many from Naperville (and other suburbs) use mass transit. Although this is a convenient form of transportation, riders run the risk of becoming involved in a bus accident due to inattentive rush-hour drivers.

Downers Grove family seeks answers after fatal bike accident

Nearly one year ago, life changed suddenly and dramatically for one DuPage County family when they lost a loved one in a car-bicycle collision. The 14-year-old boy was biking across a crosswalk when a motorist struck him, causing critical injuries. Unfortunately, the boy succumbed to his injuries and passed away before he could even start high school.

Significant patient safety concerns for 2013: Part II

Earlier this week, we began a discussion about pressing patient safety issues likely to receive a great deal of attention in the coming year. In an effort to reduce the prevalence of medical malpractice specifically and preventable medical errors generally, new reporting guidelines are going into effect in 2013. They will target patient safety in a variety of critical ways.

A sleeping threat: Many drivers admit snoozing at the wheel

Any number of factors can come to affect a person's ability to safely operate his or her car and avoid causing a car accident. While many might assume drunk driving is the most pervasive type of impairment for those behind the wheel, a recent study might challenge that thought. In fact, nearly one-third of drivers admit falling asleep at some point, which should be of great concern to other motorists in Naperville.

Significant patient safety concerns for 2013: Part I

In 2013, new federal quality reporting mandates go into effect. This means that when facilities and providers provide excellent patient care, they will be recognized for those efforts. Similarly, facilities and providers who are regularly guilty of medical malpractice and fail to improve their processes will be penalized for their lack of progress. So where do hospitals, doctors and patients need to focus in 2013? There are several pressing patient safety concerns that everyone needs to be aware of and be working towards solutions for in the coming year.

DuPage County pit bull dog bite case in Lisle

Law Offices of Mathys & Schneid in Naperville recently settled a DuPage County case for a victim of a vicious pit bull attack. Our client was walking her little Shi-Tzu dog along the sidewalk and minding her own business in the Village of Lisle when a pit bull inside a nearby house saw them, starting barking and then ran out an front unsecured door. The pit bull ran across the yard, through several feet of hedges, jumped up onto the sidewalk and clamped its jaws on our client's hand as she was lifting her Shit-Tzu off the ground for protection. The pit bull held its bite for over one minute and continued to bite and scratch our client and the Shi-Tzu until a Good Samaritan stopped their car to help.

Could a civil suit be coming after Illinois motorcycle crash?

As the winter sets in across Chicagoland, motorcycles are probably not the first thing the minds of local residents. However, the memory of a deadly motorcycle accident is fresh on the minds of one Naperville family, since the motorist who caused the accident was recently given a criminal sentence.
