Injured Kane County driver seeks compensation for ambulance crash

Last year, an Illinois man was injured in a collision with an ambulance in Geneva. After dealing with months of recovery, the man has made the decision to seek compensation for the damage that was caused.

On the early morning hours of a winter day, a man was driving his car on local streets when he was suddenly rear-ended by an ambulance operated by the city of Geneva. The car's driver received treatment for injuries that kept him from working for at least a month. These injuries have caused emotional damage in addition to the financial damage cause by his loss in earning potential

According to reports, the ambulance driver was speeding and failed to stop before hitting the injured man's vehicle. The ambulance's lights or sirens were not on when the collision occurred. For both of these reasons the ambulance driver is being considered negligent.

In total, the man hopes to recover over $50,000 to cover his financial losses. Not only will this compensation cover lost wages, but it will also help take care of the medical bills incurred during the man's lengthy recovery.

When a vehicle is operated by a municipal institution, the process to recover damages is a little different than when suing a private party. Those familiar with the intricacies of personal injury law will know what steps must be taken to hold the driver and his or her employer liable for their negligent actions. Even though the process is a bit more complex, it is still possible for those who are injured in an accident with a municipal vehicle to receive the compensation they need to continue down the road to recovery.
