Man killed in Naperville train accident

The Naperville Police Department has issued a statement regarding the Sept. 30 mass transit accident that resulted in the death of a male pedestrian. The accident occurred just after 5:20 p.m. at a Naperville train station.

The train that struck the man, the Burlington Northern Sana Fe Line, travels regularly from Union Station in Chicago to Aurora.

According to the police statement, a pedestrian attempted to cross the train tracks as a commuter train was approaching. The train was reportedly unable to stop in time, and struck and killed the man. The train accident occurred about 500 feet from a designated pedestrian crossing on Loomis Street.

The Naperville Police Department says the man involved in the accident, who was listed as 67-years-old, reportedly lived less than a block away from the spot at which he was killed.

Metra commuter traffic on the track where the man was killed was delayed briefly while police performed their investigation. Other train traffic in the area was allowed to proceed at restricted speeds.

This most recent incident was similar to a previous September accident involving a man being struck by a train near the Naperville Metra Station. The earlier accident occurred on Sept. 15, during the evening commute.

When a pedestrian is hit by a train or other mass transit vehicle, the results are often devastating. As we can see from this case, even death can occur. Sustaining an injury in a mass transit crash or losing a loved one in a similar accident can come with immense difficulties. Experienced Chicago personal injury attorneys understand how difficult this time is and may be helpful should you decide to seek compensation.
